Marlec was founded in 1978 by John Fawkes. As an an early-retired, successful engineer and businessman, he was asked to develop ways of keeping remote batteries charged - initially for the farming / electric fence market. The solution was the Rutland Windcharger - a simple, reliable, quiet and efficient wind generator. 

Since then, Marlec have become a world-leading manufacturer of small-scale turbines, widely known as the Rutland wind generator range. 

With continual product development, Marlec have now sold over 100,000 units and the design has been proven all around the world. Marlec's wind turbines are used in some of the earth’s most extreme climates ranging from Antarctica to the Sahara Desert.
