Solar controllers are a vital component of any off-grid solar pv system. The controller prevents the batteries getting damaged from overcharging.

MPPT solar controllers step down the voltage from the pv array, making it suitable for charging batteries. At the same time, MPPT technology can offer a 33% current boost over a standard PWM controller.

Solar pv controllers are rated by current. To work out what rating you need, take the total watts of solar pv and divide it by the battery voltage (A=W/V).
